FREEDOM WITHOUT HEALING IS A REVOLVING DOOR

Understanding the Signs Can Open the Door to Safety

Control Over Your Movement

Someone else decides where you go, who you talk to, or what you do. Freedom to make choices is limited or nonexistent.

Fear and Manipulation

You feel scared to say no, to leave, or to ask for help. Threats, guilt, or fear of punishment keep you stuck.

Promises That Turn Into Traps

Someone offered you love, work, or a better life—but instead you feel trapped, used, or unsafe.

Lack of Access

You don’t have control over your ID, money, phone, or documents. You're dependent on someone for your basic needs.

Isolation from Support

You’ve been cut off from family, friends, or people who care about you. You feel alone—even in a crowd.

Unfair or Forced Labor

You work long hours, aren’t paid fairly (or at all), or were told you “owe” someone for food or shelter.

Ask Yourself:

  • Are you being controlled or monitored?
  • Are you scared to say no or leave?
  • Are you being promised one thing but living another?
  • Do you feel like you owe someone your body or labor?
  • Are threats, fear, or shame keeping you quiet?
Types of Commercial Sex Trafficking
Trafficking doesn’t always look the same. If you feel pressured, controlled, or taken advantage of, learning about the different types of trafficking may help you make sense of what’s happening—and remind you that it’s not your fault.

Escort Services (Trafficking Fronts)

Traffickers use online platforms or agencies posing as escort services to sell individuals for sex, often across cities or states.

Illicit Massage Parlors

Massage businesses that operate as fronts for trafficking, often involving language barriers, limited movement, and controlled living conditions.

Strip Clubs/Exotic Dancing

Individuals are pressured or forced into performing sexualized dances or private shows, sometimes with physical contact or behind-the-scenes exploitation.

Familial & Domestic Exploitation

Sometimes, the trafficker is a relative or caregiver. This can involve manipulation, threats, or exchanging someone for money, drugs, or favors.

Survival-Based Exploitation

When someone exchanges sex for food, shelter, drugs, protection, or other necessities—often with no other options or under coercion.

Webcam/Live Streaming

Sexual acts are performed live over the internet, frequently under pressure, threats, or false pretenses.

Pornography

Sexual acts are filmed and distributed for profit—often involving coercion, manipulation, or lack of informed consent.

Pimp-Controlled Exploitation

A third party (pimp) manages, directs, or profits from another person’s involvement in commercial sex, often through manipulation, control, or threats.

Gang-Controlled Trafficking

Commercial sex is used by gangs to make money, recruit members, or establish control and loyalty within the group.

Healing, Freedom, Hope…It’s not too late.
If you or a loved one need help, you are not alone
